Top Reasons Why Your Computer Is Running Slow

Nov 5th, 2011 Luther Lore

I was on cloud nine when I purchased a new dual core desktop computer. All my dreams of having a super-fast computer with a large memory space turned into a nightmare. I could have a quick nap before opening the word processor or fix a quick snack while the internet got connected. After fighting the urge to chuck it out of the window, I decided that because my PC is running very slow, I have to solve the matter.

The first thing that I noticed was that the speed went on decreasing gradually until it became intolerable. Following an experts advice, I used the disk clean-up tool that identified all the unnecessary files on my PC and deleted them. Furthermore, I deleted all browsing history and the entire temporary files folder. To my utter surprise, I actually freed around 3GB memory space!

I heard from an internet source that the main culprit in making the pc run slow is accumulated heaps of spyware. Detecting a spyware is one uphill task as it is very well programmed and extremely difficult to find. Moreover, it sits silently in the background and decreases the computers speed drastically. Instead of searching high and low for spyware in the system, I decided to install a good antispyware program. This program detects and removes spyware as well as other virus, thereby increasing the computers speed.

Another important advice I would give to anyone facing speed problems with their PC is cleaning up the registry. Spring cleaning of the registry should be carried out occasionally. A computer registry is a place where extra files get accumulated as you go on using the computer. The more you use, the more entries are made into it. Software programmers, being ever generous, have created a registry cleaning software. This software scans the entire registry and fixes all unwanted data entries. I used a registry cleaning software and it worked wonders in restoring the original speed of my PC.

One more important task that I carried was reducing the number of shortcuts on my desktop. Believe it or not, having a cluttered desktop does slow down the speed of computer. I just kept basic icons on the desktop and it really helped in improving the speed.

Whenever I realize that my PC is running very slow, I carry out the above steps and see the results within a matter of a few hours. The disk cleaning software works like magic in solving my speed problems. Also, I strictly prohibit unwanted programs from gaining permanent residence in my computer. The actual trick is to keep up to date information of the PC so that you detect a problem the moment it is born.
